The Hummingbirds have arrived for the summer. We had our first one that we have seen this year in March 2005, here in South Georgia. The humming birds are still here and there are more showing up as cold weather gets closer. They are normally here until the middle of October.

My bird camera is down right now and I am not sure when it will be active. I have som old pictures still online.

PROTECT YOUR FEEDER FROM ANTS To keep the ants out of your feeder, take a cap from the top of a spray paint can, deodorant, etc. The cap will have an inner area where you can punch a hole with an ice pick or sharp tool. Place a nylon cord through the hole and tie it to the feeder with the open side facing up. You carefully place liquid or a little cooking oil in the outer section of the cap. Now the ants will not get to your feeder while it is hanging on the cord.

We have a bird feeder for the area birds and have discovered the birds seem to like feeding on the ground much better than from the feeder. We scatter seeds in the area around the feeder pole, in the grass and have ring neck doves and gray doves visiting every day. We have seen birds that we had never noticed before until we started feeding.

Indigo Buntings, House Finch, Grosbeak are some I had never seen before.

We have seen an Oriole  and as many as 14 Cardinals at a time.
