| The digital
modes are the newest and many would say the most fun part of Amateur
Radio. Digital radio is a strong part of most communicating modes of the
hobby. This operator was blessed to participate in the first experimenting
with Packet Radio in Georgia. We have seen packet radio come a long way
since 1985 when we were the first station on the air in South Georgia
and one of the first 5 stations in Georgia.
I ran a packet bbs on VHF and HF and a Gateway to the
internet until my health restricted my activity. With easy local
access to the internet it has reduced the interest of packet radio in
recent years. We shared software and pictures over the RF links in the
early years of packet.
It is much easier to try out the new digital modes
with the software available today. This new breed of software does not
require the investment of a TNC. You can operate packet, rtty, amtor,
pactor, sstv, and lots of other modes with software and a sound card on
your computer. As these digital pages are built, I will be sharing links
to great information sites for anyone interested in digital radio as I
am.

For my first site
to recommend, I will refer you to the web pages of a long time friend
who has also been involved in packet radio and other digital modes since
the 1985 time frame. You will find tons of information on wiring a tnc
to your rig. Buck has a low cost interface to allow you to experience
many digital modes without buying a TNC. Check out Bux
Comm. This is the home of the RASCAL
or Radio And Sound Card Adapter Link. This is the best web site for
great deals and rare parts for the digital modes. |
